Backpacking in Central America is normally undertaken by foot or bus (bumming many a lift along the way). The climate is typically warm and humid. Insects are part of the adventure and you'll see tons of them, along with monkeys, lizards and host of other critters.
The gear you select should be light and lean since you'll be carrying most of it on your back. A detachable daypack is invaluable when you stay in hostels or cabinas. Water filtrtion and security for your travel documents is often a requirement. Wicking clothing and convertible pants are great plusses. Don't forget the bug repellant!See our most popular Backpacking Across Central America below.
