Exstream Filtered Water Bottles
Exstream Water Technologies manufactures EPA-registered personal water purification systems (filtered water bottles) that eliminate pathogenic cysts, bacteria, and viruses from untreated water. We use the term "filtered" here because that's the common language used by the general public. Exstream products are more than filters, they are water purification systems.
Exstream filtered (purified) water bottles utilize a multi-stage, modular system. At the heart of the system is a ViruStat® microbial water purification cartridge that uses PentaPure® penta-iodine resin to kill over 99.9999% of waterborne bacteria and 99.99% of viruses. Exstream filtered water bottles employ a patented ion-release technology that dramatically reduces residual iodine, and special coconut-carbon scrubbers that further minimize any residue. Plus each Exstream personal water purification system includs a 1-micron filter that removes more than 99.9% of pathogenic cysts. A prefilter is installed below the cyst filter to remove sediment and organic contaminants and thereby extend the life of the cyst filter. The Exstream ViruStat cartridge, cyst filter, and prefilters are all replaceable.
Exstream purifiers have an advantage over water filters in that they also remove viruses, such as Poliovirus type 1 and Rotavirus Strain SA-11, that can cause hepatitus, meningitis, and polio. Most wilderness medicine professionals now recommend treating water for viruses as well as bacteria and cysts. The Exstream water bottle design has the advantage over pump-style water filters and purifiers, in that they don't require stopping, unpacking, sorting hoses, and pumping the water into a separate container.
