The Osprey Packs Kestrel 48 Backpack was designed for versatility and function and is large enough to accommodate overnighters and short backpacking trips. Built with an all-around feature set, the purpose of the Kestrel series is to provide practical features for a huge range of backcountry experiences. Great for anything from a multi-day desert jaunt to an ice-climbing haul bag, the Kestrel 48 is a great option for most every situation. Loaded with the standard features that we expect from Osprey Packs, this pack also comes with several more innovative features designed to make backcountry life a little easier. The main top-loading compartment makes up most of the Kestrel's 48 Liters but a stretch woven front and side pocket, a zippered top pocket, and a zippered sleeping bag compartment make gear organization and access a breeze. The hydration port makes it easy to integrate a water bladder to this bag and front daisy chains and bungee tie offs makes it easy to secure extra gear to the outside of you pack.
Osprey Packs broke the mold when they integrated some of these extra features though, completely reshaping what we've come to expect from a technical backpack. Osprey knows full well that unexpected rain can happen no matter what the weather report looked like, so they integrated a raincover and compartment into the design so you can keep your gear dry even when the unexpected happens. The Stow-on-the-Go™ attachment for trekking poles give you a place for quick storage when you're on the move, and the gear loops and bungees make it easier to attach your tools to the outside of the pack.
When you get past all of the packing features and start looking at the suspension system the deal just gets sweeter. The Airscape Backpanel system is designed with a ridged foam backpanel and a fully adjustable harness and diecut slotted hipbelt. Osprey doesn't cut any corners with comfort, and the Osprey Kestrel 48 Backpack is no exception. Osprey, once again, shows us why it's on the cutting edge of the outdoor industry.
Whatever you put inside, Osprey’s LightWire frame transfers the load to a comfortable spacer mesh harness and hipbelt. This innovative suspension system ensures all-day carrying comfort, especially in warm conditions when the Airscape™ mesh backpanel comes into play.
Other storage features include a full-length vertical zippered side pocket, top-lid and under-lid zippered pockets, side and front stretch mesh pockets, and two zippered hipbelt pockets.
Other useful features include an external hydration sleeve, tuck-away ice tool loops, and Osprey’s Stow-on-the-Go™ trekking pole attachments. The entire pack can be shielded from the elements by deploying the integrated raincover.
